There are millions of people holding Shiba Inu today, hoping to make gain from the asset as the price appreciates. However, only a handful of wallets hold more than half of the total circulating supply. This is the case with most crypto assets.
In this guide, we’re looking at the five biggest wallets holding SHIB, the native token of the Shiba Inu project built on Ethereum.
Vitalik Buterin’s Burn Address
The wallet with the biggest amount of SHIB is a burn address used by Ethereum co-founder and CEO, Vitalik Buterin. The wallet holds over 410 trillion SHIB, which is about 41% of the total SHIB circulating supply.
Remember that the creator of Shiba Inu, Ryoshi, gave 505 trillion of the total SHIB supply to Buterin in 2021. Buterin donated 10% of the amount to charity and sent 90% to a burn wallet which is this wallet.
This means that the SHIB in the wallet can not be accessed or used by anyone, removing that much SHIB from the circulating supply. This is probably the first and last transaction the wallet ever received since 2021.
This wallet holds over 42 trillion SHIB, representing over 4% of the total supply at the time of writing. It is the second largest holder of SHIB as at the time of writing this guide, and is believed to be owned by Crypto.com exchange.
The wallet is very active, with close to 12 million transactions carried out on it. This makes it questionable if it is a cold wallet, since cold wallets mostly only receive transactions and rarely send out transactions.
The wallet also holds hundreds of other ERC-20 tokens apart from SHIB. examples include CRO, MATIC, USDT and many others. The total value of this wallet’s holdings is estimated at more than $813 million.
This is the wallet with the third largest amount of SHIB. The wallet is clearly earned by Binance, the biggest crypto exchange in the world by trading volume. There’s a total of over 37 trillion SHIB held in this wallet, which is quite active with more outgoing transactions than incoming ones.
Apart from SHIB, it also holds other tokens including $259 worth of ETH, almost $300 million worth of USDT, as well as large quantities of other tokens such as LINK, MATIC, SAND, LDO and many more.
This is not the only SHIB wallet that Binance has, but all of its wallets hold a total of 79 trillion SHIB, of which this wallet alone holds over 40%.
This is another wallet owned by Binance that has a humongous amount of SHIB in it. The fourth largest holder of SHIB on this list, it holds over 30 trillion SHIB, representing about 3% of the total SHIB supply.
Unlike the Binance 28, this wallet doesn’t hold so many other ERC-20 tokens, only ETH which it has around 1 million of. The wallet is also quite active, with 144 transactions on it since its first transaction 927 days ago.
Again, this may not be a cold wallet considering the regular incoming and outgoing transactions on the wallet which is not typical of a cold wallet that is mainly for receiving and holding assets.
The fifth largest holder of SHIB and the last on this list is a wallet belonging to trading platform Robinhood. The wallet holds close to 20 trillion SHIB, representing 2% of the total supply. This wallet is provided custody by Jump Trading, suggesting that it could be a cold wallet.
This is confirmed by the fact that it has mainly been receiving transactions and has only done an outgoing transaction twice since its first transaction 244 days ago.
